My Bberry's facelift

I just bought this amazing Blackberry cover from Alghanim electronics store. It's basically a full body cover, unlike the ones that just cover the back. The rubber itself has a laser cut pattern which gives it this really nice velvety textural feel (basically it doesn't feel like rubber). And the best part is the rubber keyboard! I don't know about you, but i keep complaining how the Blackberry Bold's keyboard is so stiff. Now it's a dream to type with. The brand's name is "case-mate". It comes in several colors, the one I bought is a blackcurrant, deep purplish color.

Creative Paper

I Think one of the main reasons I went into Graphic design is my love for paper. With all the different textures, colors and printing techniques. The possibilities are truly endless for a designer. Designers have the opportunity to be really creative and in turn produce works of art that are a real treat for the senses. Art you can see, smell ( aaah the sweet smell of the crisp inner pages of a new book) and touch. I know I am getting carried away here, but when i see inspired work (like the pictures below) I am really awed at the amount of detail and effort that went into producing such beautiful paper.

Image of the day-Pride and Prejudice in the animal Kingdom

Taken from Nick Brandt's coffee table book- A shadow Falls.

My ridiculous obsession with Pride and Prejudice ( and all things Jane Austen for that matter) made me immediately think of this P&P moment:

Cinescape? more like cineHELL

Every time i go to the cinema in Kuwait i vow to never go again.. and then somehow i forget my experience and a few months later I foolishly go again. Today we went to watch "This is it" a movie featuring rare behind-the-scenes footage of Micheal Jackson's last rehearsal days before his concert.

It would have been a really good movie if not for the unnecessary cuts whenever a female dancer comes on stage!! i mean seriously, It's ok for half naked male dancers to strut their stuff on stage but noooo if a female dancer wearing a sleeveless top and pants starts to dance its considered taboo.

I really wish i could give chauvinists in our country a piece of my mind. It just reminds me how backwards we have become as a society.

And if that wasn't enough, there was something wrong with the projector. Most of the time the picture wasn't stabilized, I almost got motion sickness.

Anyway we ended up leaving the theater half way through the movie (yet again). I am posting it here for the world to see (and in case if i ever forget) I am not going to ruin another movie experience by going to Cinescape ever again.

on a lighter note; the movie was good, Micheal is a genius, and the dancers were amazing.

I suggest you watch it at home.

Currently Craving

I have been craving a crunchy, smoky, cheesy, slightly tangy pizza for a while now. But, honestly, all I can find are generic fast food ones.
Any recommendations?

Prince of Persia official movie trailer!

Finally the official trailer for the much anticipated "Prince of Persia" movie just came out. Mrs Dravkl posted about the making of the movie a while back. and like her, I loved playing the game and I think I'm going to thoroughly enjoy this movie! When i first heard that Jake Gyllenhaal will be playing "Dastan", I was like "huh?" It didn't quite fit in my head. But after watching the trailer i think he might just pull it off.

F* My Life

I stumbled upon FMylife a while back, and i hate to admit it, but reading it has become one of my guilty pleasures. It's a website where people get the chance to whine about their shitty day, embarrassing moment or plain bad luck.

It's basically an outlet for anyone who wants to express their frustration and despair with their lives, and also a cheer upper for anyone else who thinks they've had a bad day, and reads that someone in the world has had a worse one.

I feel so bad for saying this but some of the stories are actually hilarious! Here are a couple of really sad ..*cough* extremely funny.. Stories :

"Today, I stayed home, sick in bed. I had been sleeping on my arms. I got up quickly to grab the phone. My numb left arm rocketed and punched me in the (now cut) lip, which threw me off balance, making me smash my (now bloody) nose off of the headboard. It was a telemarketer. FML"

"Today, my boss fired me via text message. I don’t have a text messaging plan. I paid 25 cents to get fired."

Alsedrah

I passed by "AlSedra" today. Its a home interiors store located in the free trade zone right in front of coffee republic. The owner, Khaled Alyagout is a Kuwaiti interior designer.

The place was quite sparse, as if its still under renovation or something, or maybe he was going for the bare warehouse look. Anyway, but I actually found some really interesting pieces, My fave items were a set of tree trunk tables with mirrors on top (pictured above). If your in the area it's worth checking out. More pictures after the jump.

The patisserie of dreams

This September Parisian pastry chef extraordinaire, Philippe Conticini, unveiled his newest venture, La Pâtisserie des Rêves (the patisserie of dreams) in Paris. The delicious desserts, cakes and pastries are displayed on a round platform in the center of the shop space. Each piece de resistance is showcased in its own temperature-controlled glass bell, suspended from the ceiling. Talk about "wow" factor!

Introducing the " Jelly Watch" by ToyWatch

I was never a big fan of ToyWatch. I must confess that I have been converted after seeing their most recent collection, the fully customizable "Jelly Watch".

The Jelly Watch has a Rubber Strap, unlike their popular plastic straps. The rubber strap looks so comfortable and soft. It reminds me of the Skin watch by Swatch. The Jelly Watch has a "Plasteramic Case/Bezel", which I guess means a blend of plastic and ceramic. The watch is customizable in 110 different colors!!! I am not into neon watches, but some of the combinations are definitely eye-catching. You can also go for subtle colors like the one's i customized. You can see the pictures after the jump.

Friday Market Mess up

I was honestly left in tears after reading Mark's post (www.248am.com) on the Friday market situation, where all the shops were forced to shut down due to some rent issues. And the animals were basically left for dead in their cages due to the ministry banning the shop owners from re-opening their shops to feed them. I could not just sit there and do nothing! so my husband and I decided to go and see for ourselves the severity of the problem and if we could help in anyway possible.

when we arrived the place was eerily quiet compared to the hustle and bustle Im usually accustomed to when i used to go there as a kid. there was hardly anyone there, just despaired shop owners hanging around the premises hoping for some miracle to happen. some had cages with kittens and chicks, don't know if they were letting them out for some air or were selling them.

Thankfully there is a silver lining to this story. My husband spoke to a few shop owners and they mentioned that they were actually allowed to open their shops in order to clean and feed their animals. But there were some shops obviously belonging to cruel and insensitive owners that were left unattended and neglected.

I really hope animal friends league or PAWS will intervene and help these poor animals.

Pinkberry at the Avenues (Kuwait)

I finally got the chance to try out the famous Pinkberry frozen yogurt. Although I've heard about it a while back since it grew a celebrity following for its fat free frozen yogurt ( let's be honest anything that's 0% fat will always be popular among celebs) and then of course it reached cult status after its debut on "The hills". I wasn't really too keen on trying it. for a couple of reasons. One, i was never a frozen yogurt fan. Don't get me wrong i looove yogurt. I'de eat it plain, with honey, strawberries or some dates on the side. But yogurt will never take the place of deliciously sweet ice cream goodness! unless your on a diet then that's a different story. Secondly, even if i liked frozen yogurt, why Pinkberry? what's so special about it? I'll tell you...

Plain and simple its the new "habba" seriously, its the new craze. And for that reason alone i was so reluctant to try it! As a certain someone once so articulately put it, i hate being "kharoofy". (Kharoofy; from the arabic word kharoof, meaning: sheep-like). I just hate feeling like a sheep following the herd.

Anyway, so i was out with a couple of friends, and they were craving the pomegranate frozen yogurt (with granola on top) from Pinkberry. I had no choice but to go along and decided to try out the plain yogurt with mangoes and banana on top. I have to say, I really liked it!

It was extremely refreshing. a mixture of sweet and sour flavors tickling my taste buds. anyone who knows me knows i love me some sweet and sour anything! lol so if you're ever in Avenues and would love something cold and sweet sans the guilt trip, Get off your "Im not a kharoufy!" high horse and give it a try ;)

Old Soul New Heart

Confession: Ever since season one of Gossip Girl I have been obsessed with headbands. Sadly, it's also an obsession I share with ninety percent of Kuwaiti girls aged anywhere between *cringe* 13- 33. Nonetheless, my love of headbands has not wavered and I am constantly on the lookout for new bands and hair accessories- which led me to this super cute site called " old soul, new heart". The good news is that they deliver internationally, however, the bad news is that it can take up to 4 weeks to deliver because their pieces are made to order.

Cheap and Chic

I just bought this chic leather jacket from topshop. Its an Open front leather fitted jacket with stud detail at collar and zip pockets. Leather, Studs and zippers are back in style at the moment, so I think this would be a great addition to your wardrobe.

Heres is one of New York City’s Hottest Trendsetters, Olivia Palermo pairing it with a dress. She is known for mixing high street pieces with designer wear, and making it work so well! click here to buy.
