Falafel and Co's new location?

As many of you have already noticed, Falafel and Co. recently closed down to allow for a much needed expansion by slider station next door. Well my sources tell me the owners have already acquired a space to re-open Falafel and Co. at the Co-op in Shuwaikh B residential area. Don't know if this is just a rumor or if there's some truth to it, either way we hope they don't take too long, as I'm itching for my double impact fix ;)

Should consider themselves lucky :p .. These beautiful glass cubes are designed by GH3, unfortunately the design is a bit too risque for kuwait unless you have a huge plot of land with some privacy.

LEON: Naturally Fast Food in London

If you happen to be in London (or planning a trip there soon), and you are looking for delicious, healthy, "naturally" fast food, then LEON is the place for you. The restaurant's concept is simple "food that tastes good and does you good". At first I was reluctant, but when I tried their "Chilli Chicken", I was won over by how healthy and tasty it was! The Chili Chicken dish, my favorite, is basically grilled chicken with a light garlic and yogurt sauce, chilli sauce on the side, and brown chewy rice. It may sound ordinary, but wait till you taste it! Their food options include "Low GI", "low or no animal fat", "Wheat free", "Gluten free", "dairy free", and "Vegetarian". It's an excellent place for people who are on a diet. We need more places like LEON!

Interesting article from Tommy Ton (author of jack and jill blog) about his observation on the recent shift in street style. Women are moving away From the hard, aggressive eighties inspired looks that have dominated seasons past, toward a softer more feminine style with a seventies romance vibe...

Apple iSlate latest Rumors

There have been many rumours going around of the launch of an apple tablet, which is said to be a larger version of the iphone/ipod touch models, and that the tablet will be named "iSlate". Well, the latest rumours to hit the web suggest that the iSlate is not a tablet computer but an ebook reader similar to amazon's "kindle" and barnes and noble's "Nook". According to Quickpwn, the iSlate eBook reader will run on Apple’s upcoming iPhone OS 4.0 software and will include a separate App Store for eBooks. They also mentioned that Apple will be announcing the iSlate eBook reader at WWDC 2010, which their sources say is being held on June 7.
Time to organize your fridge!

Don't you hate it when you open your fridge looking for something to eat and nothing looks appetizing because your fridge is just too cluttered? Or when you open the fridge door and get a whiff of something foul, you then do the smell test to see what is causing that god awful stench! sniffing your cheese, your (brown)lettuce, and then aha! you find the culprit, saturday's pasta lurking at the far end of the fridge undetected by the naked eye due to the pile of condiments shoved in front of it, since there is no space for them on the drinks shelves where your milk and KDD juices have taken centre stage, we all know how important it is for the chocolate milk to be at arms length ;)
Well now is the time for change! Below are products that will help you organize your fridge, so that it 's more aesthetically pleasing, and much more useful!
Erasable Labels from Organize, Lettuce keeper from Bed bath &beyond, water bottle organizer from organize, air tight food containers from oxo, Acrylic Jars from Kitchen Kapers, Herb pods found in prepara.

I've always loved old Kuwaiti proverbs that my grandmother used, and this exhibition is all about proverbs written using beautiful Arabic calligraphy that are digitally enhanced. For example, the second picture is an image of King Henry VIII altered to visualize the meaning of the proverb written across the image...which says "Yalhais AlArbad". The exhibition is the work of Mirzam Manifesto, and is being held at 4 Boutique from 24th of December to January 5th 2010.

Fitbit : Released!

As the new year rolls around many or rather some of you are finalizing your resolutions, and most likely getting fit is at the top of the list. Well I think I just have found a gadget that could shame you into meeting your fitness goals, it's called "fitbit". Mrs Drakvl actually wrote about it a year ago when it was still in concept stage, well It's now available to the public and costs $99, not much for such a high tech gadget. It tracks your fitness throughout the day but best of all it tracks your sleep, and can tell you how many hours you've slept and how often your sleep is disrupted.

About fitbit shamelessly taken from the fitbit website ;)
"The Fitbit accurately tracks your calories burned, steps taken, distance traveled and sleep quality. The Fitbit contains a 3D motion sensor like the one found in the Nintendo Wii. The Fitbit tracks your motion in three dimensions and converts this into useful information about your daily activities.
You can wear the Fitbit on your waist, in your pocket or on undergarments. At night, you can wear the Fitbit clipped to the included wristband in order to track your sleep. Anytime you walk by the included wireless base station, data from your Fitbit is silently uploaded in the background to Fitbit.com"

Last night my husband and I watched "The Blindside" A movie based on a true story about Michael Oher, a homeless and traumatized boy who became an All American football player and first round NFL draft pick with the help of an incredibly caring woman (played by Sandra Bullock) and her family. I didn't hear much about the movie prior to watching it so i had no expectations, it turned out to be amazing! such a feel good movie and the story really makes you appreciate your life so much more. I have always loved Sandra Bullock but she really outdid herself in this movie! If you have a couple of hours to kill its Really worth watching.

Chictopia is one of the websites I regularly visit for fashion inspiration. It's filled with stylish girls showing off their wardrobe and their chicest outfits. What sets it apart from all the other fashion portals featuring street style images, is that they mention where they got their outfits from, for example, the cream jacket in last picture on the right is actually from zara, and the cute blue blouse in the second picture bottom row is from gap! I love the fact that all the pieces are easily attainable.

"A 100 year diary for you to record the events of a lifetime. It will help you to remember the special moments you will never want to forget... the people you have loved, the friends you have made, the places where you have lived and those you have travelled to. You can record your achievements as well as your skills, make a note of favourite films/books/music/people and write down all your ambitions and things you want to do before you die. A map of the world and one of your body is included and can be filled in as you choose. Every year you can write about what important things are happening in your life and include photos and memorabilia... If you are too young to fill it in right now someone else can fill it in for you, things like your first steps, first words and first day at school...
This is the story of your life, treasure it always." Suck Uk

Just came across a really inspiring article in the NY Times about a 30 year old woman with a hobby for knitting scarves named Yokoo Gibran. Who would have thought that the hand-knit scarves & accessories she sells on Etsy would earn her more than $140,000 a year! (which is more than the average starting salary for a Wharton or Harvard MBA graduate!!!) Read more.

Brittany Murphy died early morning on December 20th, after she went into full cardiac arrest and could not be revived, her mom discovered her unconscious in the shower. When paramedics arrived, they quickly determined Murphy was in full cardiac arrest and immediately administered CPR. They continued CPR in route to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center -- several miles away -- and Murphy was unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.

I Just found out that Al Hamra tower was designed by SOM (Skidmore, owings and Merill LLP), an award winning architectural firm based in Chicago. Some of their other projects include Burj Dubai and the new One world trade centre (freedom tower). Another interesting fact is that in addition to Al Hamra being the tallest building in kuwait, it is also the tallest sculpted tower in the world! The diagram below also states that the tower will have a shopping mall spanning 6 floors! and an 11 floor car park, Finally! no problems with parking.

I have always loved The Sartorialist's work; I even stood in line for a little over two hours just to get an autograph! I am a fan by all means, and this particular picture makes me love his work that much more. It is not the lady in the picture that I am impressed with, but the message behind it. Lets face it, currently Islam's poll number's are pretty darn low and when certain European countries choose to suppress Islam and all the symbols associated with it ( from head scarves to minarets)- this gentleman, dare I say heroically posts this picture:

Brad Pitt to design an eco "village" in Dubai ?

This story is probably old news by now, but its the first I've heard of it! It appears that Brad pitt has teamed up with Graft (LA based architectural firm) to build a solar powered residential development in Dubai. The development will include a 5 star hotel, cinemas, shops, restaurants and a full scale theatre.
"Organized to reduce solar gain and maximize solar production, the buildings are massed as self-shading slabs to reduce low angle sun penetration. The solar roof behaves much like a leaf, with veins that break up the solar field up into serviceable units to provide structure but also transport energy, to significantly reduce air conditioning and provide hot water."
The design is very ambitious and remarkably futuristic. Although the announcement was made late last year, the time and date for the completion of this project has not yet been disclosed, and with the recent setbacks in Dubai I don't think its happening anytime soon.
Flip Mino: Customizable!!!

I always thought Flip Video was cool (for those of you who are not familiar with it, it is a small HD video camera that fits in your pocket, with a built-in USB adapter, so no wires necessary). Flip has recently added personalization of the outer shell using your personal images or using AMAZING designs by really creative artists (such as IDEO, Krux Trucks etc). If you're the kind of person who likes personalized items then you'll love this. The best part (if you're a designer) is that you can submit your design for a chance to be selected as one of the featured designers in the Flip community. You have to purchase a Flip first before you can submit your designs... Smart move. Here are some of my favorite designs 1-Rad Dad by Krux Trucks 2-Snowpath by the Flip Studio.
